CNPJ lookup for Brazilian companies

Takes a list of CNPJ numbers and returns one row per company from the Receita Federal register: legal name, trade name, registration status, opening date, legal nature, CNAE activities, address, share capital and size.

The CNPJ is the national register number of every company and establishment in Brazil, kept by Receita Federal, the federal revenue service. Its registration data is public open data. This tool looks up each number and returns it with English field names and stable types. Numbers can be given with or without punctuation, and duplicates are looked up once.

Partners and directors (the QSA), phone numbers and e-mail addresses are never returned. Sole proprietors and MEI are left out, since their registration is a private person. Invalid numbers, numbers that are not found and sole proprietors give a row with an error and are not charged. A run with empty input looks up Banco do Brasil, so you can see the output format at once.

What people use it for

Customer and supplier checks. Confirm that a CNPJ exists, has the status ATIVA and has the legal name on the contract before you sign or invoice.
List cleaning and enrichment. Add the official name, address, CNAE code and size to a list of Brazilian accounts in a CRM or ERP.
Counterparty monitoring. A daily run with onlyNew set to true returns a company only when its status or statusDate has changed, for example from ATIVA to BAIXADA or INAPTA.

Price

3 USD per 1 000 companies, plus Apify platform usage.

A run with the default input looks up one company and costs 0.003 USD in results. The run on 3 October 2026 shown above looked up 50 CNPJ numbers in 28 seconds; at the current price 50 companies cost 0.15 USD. Lookups are paced at 2 per second, so 1 000 numbers take about 9 minutes.

Run it on a schedule

Set onlyNew to true and add the actor to a schedule in Apify Console (for example the cron expression 0 7 * * * for 07:00 every day). The actor remembers what it has already delivered for the same input, in a named key-value store in your own Apify account (nightwave-state-brazil-cnpj-companies), and each run returns and charges only what is new. The first run returns everything in the selection. A run with nothing new finishes with 0 rows and costs nothing beyond platform usage.

Source and license

The data is Receita Federal do Brasil's Cadastro Nacional da Pessoa Jurídica, published as open data (Dados Abertos do CNPJ). The tool reads it through the public API of Minha Receita, an open source project that loads the Receita Federal files into one database. The data is as fresh as the latest monthly release, so a status change can show up some weeks later than on the Receita Federal website. The tool is not affiliated with Receita Federal or Minha Receita.

Under the Brazilian Access to Information Law (Lei nº 12.527/2011) and the federal open data policy (Decreto nº 8.777/2016), data the federal executive publishes as open data is free to use by the public. Minha Receita is MIT licensed and sets no restriction on use of its public API. Every row carries source and sourceUrl.
