HS and HTS code lookup with US and UK duty rates
Looks up tariff codes in the official US and UK tariffs and returns one row per tariff line with the description, duty rates, unit of quantity and footnotes. Give it codes you already have, or search by a product word.
The first six digits of a tariff code are the international Harmonized System (HS); each country adds its own digits and duty rates. For us the tool reads the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States from the U.S. International Trade Commission: general, special and column 2 rates, units and footnotes. For uk it reads the UK Trade Tariff from GOV.UK: third country duty, VAT, preferential rates per country or trade agreement, supplementary unit and additional duties.
Codes can have 4 to 10 digits, with or without dots, and a short code returns every line under it. Rates are given as text exactly as the source writes them (Free, 6.00%, 1.5¢/kg), since many duties are specific or compound. A run with empty input returns heading 8471 (computers) in the US tariff. This is a lookup of the published tariff, not customs advice: the tool does not tell you which code is right for your goods.
Sample from a real run
5 of 38 rows (selected fields) from run 0O324nmlWyw7qFYaq on 6 October 2026, exactly as the tool returned them.

Fields
Every row has these fields. Field names are stable between versions.
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
code | The tariff code as the source writes it: 8471.30.01.00 in the US, 8471300000 in the UK |
country | us or uk |
description | Description of the line itself, often just "Other" |
fullDescription | Every description from the heading down to the line, joined with >, so a line called Other gets its meaning |
headingDescription | Description of the 4 digit heading |
chapterDescription | Title of the chapter. null for the US, since the USITC API has no chapter titles |

source | The official source of the line. The US source names the HTS revision, for example USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule, 2026 Revision 20 |

Input example
Paste it into the JSON tab of the actor in Apify Console, or send it to the Apify API.
{
"codes": [],
"search": "",
"country": "us",
"onlyNew": false,
"maxResults": 50
}What people use it for
- Landed cost. Fill in the duty rate and VAT for each product in a catalogue or quote, so the price at the border is known before the goods are ordered.
- Classification check. Compare the codes on supplier invoices and customs declarations with the official description of the line, and find codes that do not exist or describe something else.
- Tariff change monitoring. A daily run with
onlyNewset to true on the codes you import under returns a line only when its duty, VAT or preferential rate changes.
Price
5 USD per 1 000 tariff lines, plus Apify platform usage.
A run with the default input returns the 38 lines of heading 8471 and costs 0.19 USD in results; that is what the run on 6 October 2026 shown above returned, in about 3 seconds. maxResults caps every run (default 50), and a search without matches costs nothing per line.
Run it on a schedule
Set onlyNew to true and add the actor to a schedule in Apify Console (for example the cron expression 0 7 * * * for 07:00 every day). The actor remembers what it has already delivered for the same input, in a named key-value store in your own Apify account (nightwave-state-tariff-hs-code-lookup), and each run returns and charges only what is new. The first run returns everything in the selection. A run with nothing new finishes with 0 rows and costs nothing beyond platform usage.
Source and license
US data comes from the USITC HTS REST API and UK data from the UK Trade Tariff API. Neither needs a key. The tool sends at most 4 requests per second to each source. Chapter 99 measures such as Section 301 duties are not added to a line's rate; look them up with codes such as 9903. EU TARIC is not included. The tool is not affiliated with or endorsed by the USITC, HMRC or the UK Government.
The HTS is a work of the U.S. Government and not subject to copyright (17 U.S.C. 105). The UK Trade Tariff is published under the Open Government Licence v3.0, which allows commercial reuse with the attribution carried in every UK row: "Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0."
Try it
The tool runs on Apify. Apify handles your account, the runs and the payment, and you can try it with the input above before you schedule anything.
